Be Anxious for Nothing
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4: 6-8 NKJV
Anxiety must come from the past and future. Something that is outside of our control. Paul says, “let your requests be made known to God” (4:6). A requests would be wanting or needing something in the future and this is what causes anxiety. It’s fear that something won’t work out. When we have anxiety come up, we can ask ourselves, what is it that we want? We can pray to God about it and not be anxious about it anymore-this is when we put our faith in God. That is a faith from facts not a blind faith. Now, we can get back to living in the present moment. Seneca says in his Letters from a Stoic, “Wild animals run from the dangers they actually see, and once they have escaped them worry no more.” He also adds later, “No one confines his unhappiness to the present.” So in our anxiety’s through looking into the future, let’s give our request to the Lord. And through the things that torment us in the past, let’s remember that the past is frozen and that we can learn from those things. Paul says, “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3: 13-14 NIV 1984).”
